In a future where the oceans have risen so high, nearly all land has vanished, Loch, a young selkie, lives in an underwater research base with the two scientists who raised him. When they mysteriously vanish, Loch must find them and continue their mission of exploration and discovery. Along the way, he journeys into foreign ecosystems and the remains of a sunken world, uncovering hidden truths, making allies and foes alike, and learns he's not the only one searching beneath the waves.
The underwater base was designed as a large crab with the intention to ward off predators and prevent attacks. As a real crab can, the base can move though often stays sedentary in one location for long periods of time. The claws are also functional, acting as another means of defense as well as having the ability to pick things up and move them. The ‘’mouth’’ of the base opens to the cargo bay, which houses cargo, lockers with dive gear, and all smaller vehicles including two submarines, and an exploration rover.
